My opinion on Charlotte Tilbury makeup

Charlotte Tilbury makeup

The Charlotte Tilbury makeup range was on my eye long before it arrived in France. Lots of english bloggers/youtubers were talking about it and I couldn’t wait to try them ! It was during my stay in Amsterdam that I made some purchases because the brand was not yet sold in France.

Today, I offer you a little overview of the products I have tested.

Makeup Charlotte Tilbury: the brand

Charlotte Tilbury is a make-up artist from an early age. Throughout her career, she has worked as a creative consultant with many beauty brands and innovative laboratories, such as Tom Ford, M.A.C, Helena Rubinstein and Chanel. Driven by an iron will and a deep passion for women and the power that makeup can give them, she launched her own eponymous range in 2013 through which she reveals all her secrets and skills.

The range offers both skincare and makeup products. This brand is positioned on a luxury level with prices between 25€ for small make-up items up to more than 100 € for certain skincare creams.

Today, the brand is available in France among others at Sephora, Feelunique, Net-à-Porter.

Charlotte Tilbury makeup review & review

In my makeup collection, I therefore have some products of the brand, here is what I can tell you after testing them. You can also see the products in action in my makeup tutorial.

Magic Away Liquid Concealer

The Magic Away concealer is a liquid concealer that promises full coverage. For five years, Charlotte Tilbury worked on this product to reduce the appearance of dark circles, spots and blemishes, for a second skin effect. The packaging is somewhat reminiscent of that of the “touche éclat” with a mechanism which allows the product to be pumped to the Magic Precision Sponge applicator which has been designed to roll over imperfections and adapt to the eye area for flawless application.

When I opened this product, I found the packaging very pretty and glamorous. However, for the first use, I found that it was necessary to “turn” the end A LOT to have the product which goes up in the sponge. As a consumer, you feel slightly “scammed” when you realize that a fifth of the product is already out of the wind. Suddenly, level quantity/price, this product is not at all advantageous.

The applicator, on the other hand, is really gentle on the skin and flexible enough to follow the curves of the face and eyes. The coverage is rather light to medium if you work by thin layers. For a better hold of the product, I advise you to powder it otherwise it would tend to spin in folds and fine lines – all the more if you have oily or combination skin.

For reference, I tested shade 2 Fair.

Filmstar Bronze & Glow

The Filmstar Bronze and Glow contouring palette is one of the brand’s bestsellers. It is there to refine, sculpt, reduce, draw and illuminate the face features. The bronzer is a mixture of pearls and pigments which allows you to sculpt the face and give a tanned skin effect. The highlighter has a golden base to universally sublimate any complexion thanks to the Light Flex technology which captures the light and re-diffuses it where you have decided.

The palette is available in two versions : for fair skin tones (Fair Medium) and for darker skin tones (Medium Dark).

I use it very regularly since I have it and I really like this palette. The bronzer is a cool shade with ashy, not orange undertones – which makes it very chic and suitable. The highlighter is very discreet and is ideal for everyday makeup. I also really like the format of the fairly compact palette, with a large mirror which means that I take it systematically when I travel.

For highlighter and strobbing aficionados, this product will not be intense enough for you.

Colour Chameleon

The Colour Chameleon eyeshadow pencil is a cream eyeshadow in the form of a jumbo pencil. It contains synthetic sapphire which enhances the natural color of the eyes. Charlotte Tilbury promises an easy-to-apply long-wearing formula that glides over the eyelid and stays in place.

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’m a fan of eye shadows in the form of a pencil, stick, etc. I love the color of the one I have (the Dark Pearl shade) which is a sparkly plum. The color is bright and blends easily with your finger or a brush. On the other hand, the application is a little more complicated than for other pencil / stick eyeshadows. The formula does not slide enough on the eyelid and it is necessary to iron the product well in order to have an intense finish. The lasting is rather average and I always use a classic eyeshadow to extend the hold of the pencil. It serves me more as a base than a product to wear as is. Another downside, to maintain your Charlotte Tilbury pencil, you need to buy the Charlotte Tilbury pencil sharpener (€7) because the diameter of this product is “out of the ordinary”. Many other luxury brands provide a pencil sharpener with their pencils, so why not this one ?

Lip Cheat Pillow Talk

The brand has had success with the Pillow Talk lip pencil, which claims to be THE nude ! The Lip Cheat pencil promises to smooth the texture of the lips for an ultra-flawless outline. This waterproof formula means that there will be no burrs or transfer of the product.

Usually, I don’t often wear lip pencils – except for red or fuchsia in order to have the most perfect look possible. I really like this pencil because its texture glides easily over the lips and really gives a more rounded appearance to the lips. The Pillow Talk color is perfect and can be worn as is, without lipstick on top. The finish is slightly mat.

Matte Revolution Lipstick

Matte Revolution Lipstick contains ingredients to hydrate, soften the lips with a matte finish. Antioxidant roucou extracts and soothing orchid extracts smooth, protect and hydrate your lips. The special feature of this lipstick is its square bullet end which imitates the shape of a lip brush for precise application.

I fell for the Amazing Grace shade which is a slightly coral nude. I really like this red which is the one I turn to when I don’t know what to wear. This shade of nude perfectly matches my complexion and the application is easy. However, I recommend using a lip balm beforehand for more comfort.

Charlotte Tilbury makeup: to crack or not to crack?

As with any brand, there are products that stand out from Charlotte Tilbury’s makeup range. While others do not deserve that we spend our money on them. It’s up to you to see what speaks to you the most in the range and get started !
