With the COVID-19, it is recommended to wear a mask and I wanted to offer you a makeup tutorial on how to wear makeup with a mask. Indeed, I found that wearing a mask had consequences on the skin and makeup, so I have gathered together my advice to adapt your beauty routine.
Impact of the mask on the skin
A mask, whether fabric or surgical, will cause friction with the material. The other constraint is humidity : we breathe in and out with a barrier. The water naturally present in our breath will therefore stagnate on this covered area of the face.
You may have noticed, wearing a mask will bring :
- dryness around lips, skin around the mouth and even in the mouth,
- a friction which can cause itching or sores,
- a runny nose,
- crying eyes.
How to wear makeup with a mask ?
Once we know the inconvenience of wearing a mask, we can adjust our beauty and makeup routine.
Before you apply makeup, make sure you have enough skin hydratation on your lower face. If you have certain irritations, you can use an isolating healing cream (such as Avene Cicalfate, Triage Bariéderm or Lait Crème Concentré or Cicalisse Embryolisse).
For makeup, here are the tips I gathered :
- Moisturize the lips : make-up does not help much when wearing the mask
- Use powder foundation to avoid too much transfer to the fabric.
- Wear a makeup base over the eyes or a cream eyeshadow.
- Wear waterproof mascara or just put it on the upper lashes.
On sunny days, don’t forget to use cosmetics with SPF and/or sunscreen before applying your products.
